Kowtow tees are CERTIFIED FAIRTRADE AND ORGANIC by the Fairtrade Labelling Organisastion and certified organic by the Control Union Group.
Kowtow is licensed to sell Fairtrade Certified Cotton. The Fairtrade Labelling Organisation International audits every step of the supply chain from growing, spinning and dying all the way to the finished product to ensure that internationally recognised labour practices have been met.
Their cotton producers adhere to the Fairtrade Standards criteria established by Fairtrade Labelling Organisation International for employment, work environment and socio-economic development. Fairtrade Standards have been developed in consultation with farmer, consumer and industry representatives.
The World Health Organisation estimates that 20,000 people a year die in developing countries from pesticide poisoning, and a further 3 million people suffer chronic health problems. This is one of the reasons why Kowtow is certified organic by the Control Union Group, an independent certifying agency located in the Netherlands.
Their cotton is grown using non-genetically modified seeds meaning our farmers do not get into a cycle of debt with big corporations for expensive seed and pesticide purchase.
Their farmers use sustainable practices like like crop-rotation, hand-farming and botanical pest control. This keeps soil enriched and healthy so it requires fewer external applications and treatments.
Their cotton is processed and low-impact dyed as per international organic standards. Strict testing is conducted to ensure the absence of hazardous elements like nickel, lead, formaldehyde, amines, pesticides and heavy metals.
This simply means that Kowtow products adhere to Control Union Group standards for not only cotton growing, but also processing (e.g. pre-treatment, washing, bleaching, dyeing, waste treatment, finishing) to provide a completely environmental product.
