Product Description
Maximum comfort, minimum waste.
Po-Zu was launched in 2006 with the aim of setting new standards in ecological manufacturing. Their purpose is to provide maximum comfort and pleasure for the people who use our products, while ensuring the shoes are ethically sourced, and manufactured with the lowest impact possible to our environment.
Po-Zu shoes are biodegradable*, durable, and exceptionally comfortable, designed around a unique coconut fibre ‘foot-mattress’. As you wear them, air pockets in the mattress react to your body heat, weight, and movement, gradually molding to the shape of your foot. The mattress allows air to circulate and keep your feet dry, while providing good insulation for both hot and cold climates.
Their shoe components are carefully selected to be natural, free from harmful chemicals, and organically certified where possible. They avoid harmful glues by stitching the shoes together, which also makes them more breathable, durable, repairable and recyclable.
* The amount of biodegradable compenents in Pozu shoes is estimated to be over 90%, and varies slightly in each style. The shoes will not biodegrade while you wear them, only if you place them in the ground (wood for example is used to build houses yet it is biodegradable).
Pozu's carefully selected ingredients are:
Coir - packaging and foot mattress is made from coconut-based coir, in different densities. Coir is a mixture of 60% coconut husk (which is natural waste), and 40% natural latex.
Cork - Produced from the bark of the Cork Oak Tree (Quecus Suber) which grows locally in Portugal where the shoes are produced. The harvesting of cork does not harm the tree and a new layer of cork re-grows, making it a renewable resource.
Hemp - Organically grown, pure 100% unbleached, low impact dyes-free from heavy metals. Hemp is naturally hypoallergenic, mould resistant, and stops bacteria growth, and its probably the most environmentally friendly crop available for textile production.
Latex - Used in both mattresses and soles. Pure vegetable rubber made from the milky sap of the Lectae hevea tree. The latex used in the soles is approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
Leather - Organically tanned with vegetable extracts from the bark of Mimosa and Quebracho trees. Tested to be free from harmful chemicals and heavy metals
Wool - Pure 100% un-bleached and un-dyed natural fleece colours. Grey, for example, is a mix of white, brown and black sheep wool. The tweed is traditionally Scottish woven.
